Thoroughly brown at med-high heat 3 1/2 cups finely chopped onions (15 mins).
Reduce to medium and add
1 1/2 T. cumin
2 T. garam masala
1/4 tsp. cayenne
3/4 tsp. pepper
1 1/2 tsp. salt
4 1/2 T. tamarind pasteAdd 4 cups chickpeas. Heat.
